Eve Simpson Returns With a New Amazing Single ‘I Can See a Face’

Eve Simpson

Talking about the new track, Eve Simpson shares: “I wrote ‘I Can See a Face’ in my student flat overlooking the Salisbury Crags last year. It was a Winter’s night, and I allowed my mind to wander as it did when I was a child, bursting into imaginative nostalgia and escapism. I saw my childhood self within the inanimate crags, longing for human interaction and acceptance. This child-like fantasy runs throughout the whole song, whispered when recorded at the SAE Institute in Glasgow, and later finished at Loft Music Studios, Newcastle. It embraces vulnerability within a new Caledonian setting, and perhaps hints at the longing to maintain the person we’ve always been when moving to new places. It tries to combine honest songwriting, with haunting escapism, accompanied by my friends on production, fiddle, and percussion.”

A folk-infused waltz at its core, Eve intertwines her delicate vocal melodies with stripped back guitar plucks and cinematic strings, delivering her sound effortlessly, infused with harmony and sincerity. The song’s yearning melodies are simply irresistible and it’s no wonder that Eve Simpson is a hotly tipped new face on the scene.

Inspired by the greats Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, and Laura Marling, SandDancer Eve Simpson has co-written with, and supported, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, UB40, Cattle & Cane, The Lake Poets, and Callum Pitt. Touring the English folk festival scene with Kathryn Tickell & Superfolkus, Eve was also a featured artist at the 2018  ‘Both Sides Now’ Industry Showcase, as well as scoring the North East segment of ‘A Kind of Seeing’ film, winning a FOCAL International Film Award.

Eve is also a co-founder of Intarsia Records, a North-East based record label providing opportunities for underrepresented artists. With regular airplay and festival support from BBC Introducing in the North East, as well as BBC 6 Music. Eve has spent the past few years songwriting, creating, and confidence-building, ready to explode into 2022 with brand new releases and a matured, heart-wrenching sound. Eve is set to release her single ‘I Can See a Face’ in February 2022, solidifying her artistry with songwriting and folklore at its core.
