Singita Sabora

A next-generation tented camp leading the way for low-impact, back-to-nature, socially distant travel in 2021

Experience tented camping like never before with Singita Sabora Tented Camp, a next-generation camp pushing the boundaries of safari style to the limit, situated in the private 350,000 acres Singita Grumeti Reserve, Tanzania. Embodying the essence of simplicity, this restorative sanctuary under canvas strikes the perfect balance between classic safari adventures and timeless modernity.

Singita’s design partners, Cécile & Boyd and GAPP Architects, collaborated to bring the architecture  and décor of the camp to life, echoing the earthy colour palette of the bush and balancing this with  modern interpretations of furniture which evoke the spirit of East African adventures. Leading the  charge for a bold new breed of safari design, finishes containing mesh, canvas and weave feature

throughout Sabora’s nine tented suites, providing a rich combination of textures and layers of  sophisticated comfort, while the exquisite craftsmanship of the custom-designed tents is extended to  every chosen piece.

The placement of the camp has also been subtly reorganised, with each suite enjoying breathtaking  views of one of the two nearby waterholes. This location at eye level with wildlife rewrites the script  on sustainable experiences in the wilderness. Being even closer to the ground means every sight, sound  and smell of the bush is amplified, while bespoke glass panelling welcomes the Serengeti plains inside.

Added comforts include private meditation decks and secluded outdoor salas with shaded daybeds,  offering a reimagined guest experience which places the emphasis on stillness and serenity. allowing  guests to spend languid afternoons reading on their decks, idly watch game passing by, and immerse  themselves in Sabora’s unrivalled setting.

The tents rest lightly above the ground, with minimal impact on the landscape and with the use of  sustainable materials, natural light, cross ventilation, energy-efficient lighting and solar power, the off grid design wholly embraces the One Planet Living sustainability framework.

The camp’s food experience is one of the most innovative elements of its reinvention and is built on the farm-to-table philosophy. Sabora draws on traditional African ingredients or influences, translated in a  modern and exciting Singita way, such as mchicha (spinach), Sukuma wiki, green bananas, baobab and ugali (corn meal) are used. However, seasonal locally-sourced ingredients are only the beginning:  guests can also fill wicker picnic baskets with gourmet treats from the lodge’s all-day, self-service  ‘Guest Deli’ – a signature feature of this new camp – to be enjoyed on their suite’s private deck, or at  any number of secluded dining locations scattered throughout the property. Each tented suite even  features an in-room pantry for effortless snacking; with mouthwatering bites best enjoyed on their  secluded shaded daybeds.
